Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG) is a housing provider committed to delivering quality homes and supporting communities across Wythenshawe and the wider Greater Manchester region.

Working in partnership with public and private sector organisations, WCHG plays a key role in improving housing provision, supporting regeneration initiatives, and creating sustainable communities.

As part of the long-term regeneration of Wythenshawe town centre, WCHG is helping to deliver new homes and community infrastructure designed to facilitate the transformation of the town centre a greener, more accessible, economically vibrant space over the next 10-to-15 years.

Opportunity

Supporting the delivery of the first phase of a £500 million town centre regeneration programme

Underpinned by a collaboration between WCHG, Muse and Manchester City Council, the wider regeneration masterplan will deliver more than 2,000 homes alongside improved community facilities, public spaces and sustainable transport links over the coming years.

As part of this wider regeneration, the first phase of the project will comprise the delivery of 422 high-quality affordable homes as part of the wider transformation of the town centre.

What We Did

Delivering specialist housing and regeneration advice to support a landmark redevelopment project

Specialist legal advice was required to lay the groundwork for the project across three core workstreams: Property, supported by Arthur Chapman and James Challis; Grant Funding, supported by Julie Loggenberg and Adele Beaman; and Construction, supported by Steve Webb.

WCHG appointed Knights’ Housing & Regeneration experts to provide legal advice and support across several key aspects of the project.

Working closely with WCHG and project stakeholders, we:
Advised on property matters supporting the first phase of development.
Provided specialist guidance on grant funding arrangements.
Supported construction-related legal requirements for the project.
Advised on complex regeneration and development structures.
Applied expertise in affordable housing delivery, and brownfield development funding, including the Social Housing Accelerator Fund and Greater Manchester’s Good Growth Fund
Helped prepare the project for the legal and delivery phase ahead of construction.

The project was supported by specialists across Property, Grant Funding and Construction, ensuring a coordinated approach to a complex regeneration scheme.

Impact

Laying legal foundations for the first phase of Wythenshawe’s transformation

By delivering 422 affordable homes, the first stage of the project will help to address housing demand while supporting the wider regeneration of Wythenshawe town centre.

The wider masterplan – led in collaboration between WCHG, Muse and Manchester City Council – will bring forward more than 2,000 homes over the next 10–15 years, alongside improved community facilities, public spaces and sustainable transport links. The scheme forms part of a long-term vision to create a greener, more accessible and economically vibrant town centre.
